Fiercest Freedom Fighter Armies of Africa

REALLY FIERCE AFRICAN FREEDOM FIGHTER ARMIES

1. The MauMau(Kenya)
The ruthlessness of the MauMau, the Kenyan freedom fighters cannot be overstated. More than 100 British souls were lost thanks to the Maumau. Infact as of 2012,the MauMau was still listed as a terrorist group by the UK. The Lari massacre was the most famous atrocity committed by the MauMau where more than 70 home guards were murdered in cold blood in one night for their collaboration with the British. Thanks to the MauMau too, the British declared a state of emergency in Kenya for almost ten years, from 1952, a period of untold suffering for the Kenyan peoples.
Today, MauMau and its leaders like General Kimathi, General China are hailed as statesmen and a day (Mashujaa day) is set aside each year in their memory

2.The FRELIMO(Mozambique)

The ruthlessness of the Portuguese in their colonies is  a well-documented fact. In Mozambique Prisoners were subjected to torture of great magnitude which for obvious reasons led to the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) in 1962. The FRELIMO guerillas with a nationwide network ambushed Portuguese installations and troops, inflicting casualties and loss of properties nationwide. Collaborators were also attacked and killed to deter Mozambicans from such tendency. By 1974, the Portuguese were overwhelmed and almost subdued. In 1975, Mozambique gained independence and FRELIMO finally achieved their goal.

3.  Sudan People's Liberation Army/Movement (Sudan)
Peace finally seems to be returning o Sudan after decades of civil war which has left Sudan on the brink of destruction. In 2010, South Sudanese citizens voted unanimously to secede from the greater Sudan. Prior to that however the SPLA had been fighting Darfur since the 80's culminating in hundred of thousands of deaths, and millions of people displaced from their homes. In 2006, war reignited after John Garang SPLA died in a plane crash from a piece meeting in Kenya. Today however South Sudan is an independent country with Salva Kiir as the President and the last SPLA leader de facto
4.  Eritrean People's Liberation Front (Eritrea)
Eritrea gained independence from Ethiopia in 1995 , but not before a long and bloody battle with Ethiopia. The EPLF was the liberation army created henceforth. As it is all to a common story, EPLF attacked civilians suspected of traiting. Hundred if not thousands were killed in the resulting conflict and thousands others displaced to neighbouring Djibouti

Famous Anglo-French write Hilaire Bellocr even confidently wrote that “Whatever happens, we have the Maxim gun, and they have not” Well, except that the Maxim gun sometimes failed terribly when it faced the unbridled determination, bravery and the sheer spirit of Africans.   Downright unexpected upsets sometime...
