Sadly, no country can claim to have ever won the war on terror. Because unfortunately, no one even has an idea on what terrorism is. To most people, Islam is another word for terrorism. needless to say, that is a fallacy in its entirety. only until that notion has been eradicated will our innocent soldiers brainwashed to think they are actually fighting for a just cause, will stop dying in Somalia.
What is this terrorism? Freethinkers like me will tell you that it is a western invented idea designed to oppress one religion. I do not mean to be naive or indifferent to the many crimes people purporting to be staunch Muslims have perpetrated, but in that situation, after a long period of being treated second class, anger finally builds and is manifested in violence, because in no other way can they be listened to. Ask the Palestinians who have been living as refugees in the land of their forefathers, yet even we the common people are so accustomed to western propaganda that every time an Israel-Palestine issue emerges, we immediately assume Palestine is the villain. Violence has never been a solution, diplomacy overrules violence.
NATO has been loosing the war in Iraq and Afghanistan for 15 years now, yet they are so proud to admit it. Thomas Sankara says you can kill a man but never an idea. They have been trying to kill an idea all along, by killing men.
Tecumseh, the Great American Indian general said that , Respect first the opinion of others and then demand that they respect yours. Our government must quit making war and seek to end it. It could be a route uncharted by the war-loving West but it might as well be the shortest route to peace in Somalia.
Al-Shabaab does not even hate Kenyans. It hates that Kenyans are advancing a Western cause. It hates that we are trying to further the injustices that have been committed against Muslims then justified as necessary. Mine may not be a solution but at least if you read this you get the point.
Terrorism is alien to Africans and Kenyans. It is imported, and all efforts must be made to find our own homegrown way of dealing with it! Just for the record, I am a peace loving Kenyan, who was born, brought up and still practices Roman Catholicism.
